Ethiopia is a very diverse place inhabited by “very different looking people”. Millions of Ethiopians see themselves as black Africans for a very good reason: They are Nilotes. Nilotes are the blackest Africans and extremely proud of it. Kushite Horners, the only stereotypical Ethiopians Westerners keep on talking about are the Ethiopians of the Bible. Ethiopia is mentioned in the Bible at least 40 times. Can an Ethiopian change his skin? is a very famous verse. Kush refers to a land inhabited by Blacks. Kushi is the racial slur for Blacks in Israel. Countless Ethiopians have Semitic ancestors they are proud of and they refuse to be racialized. They are not black, brown Caucasoids or whatever racial color label or classification.

Black Africans have been stereotyped and phenotyped as “Negroes” by European slavers and colonizers. A Black African is a Negro, that is, someone with a prognate skull, a broad nose, thick lips, and nappy hair (Afro-textured hair). Millions of Ethiopians do not fit the Dion Waiters Goat Black Mamba shirt but in fact I love this Negro stereotype and phenotype. Whenever they say that they are not Black Africans, they imply that they are not “Negroes”.
